The King returns home

I figured that it was about time for a Thai news update. I've slacked off and let Candice do a whole string of family-related updates - and as interesting as those are, I'm sure that some of you are wondering what is going on with the rest of the country :)

The big story in Thailand today is that the King has returned to the palace after spending several weeks in the hospital. He had experienced weakness on his right side and the doctors found that he had insufficient blood flow to part of his brain. This was a major news event - the papers had daily updates and more than one million people visited the hospital to wish him well and pray for his recovery. Some people even traveled from other parts of the country and camped out there as a show of support.

Here's a link to a photo slide show of the King leaving the hospital, accompanied by a song that we hear repeatedly on TV, on the skytrain, and in stores. I haven't figured out all of the lyrics, but it's praising the King and listing the many good things that he has done for the Thai people.
