Eating worms

The other day I went with a Thai family (our former English students) to watch boat races. There were teams of 20-30 men rowing traditional Thai longboats, racing on the Chao Phraya River. It was part of a festival that took place around the Mothers Day weekend. While we were walking back to their car we stopped at various stands selling snacks. One of them was selling a variety of fried insects. Our friends bought a bag of worms and, after eating some of them, sent the rest home with me. As soon as I showed them to the girls Eliza immediately volunteered to eat one - and she enjoyed them!

The insect vendor - the crispy worms were definitely among the more edible-looking options.

The worms were very crispy and almost hollow.

Wow Eliza! That is pretty cool! You are braver than I would be. :-) That is one thing I keep hoping that God doesn't ask me to do. So did the rest of the family eat them?

I am seriously jealous.

Yes we all tried them Rob! They were actually not too bad!

I agree with Ryan.

Go Eliza, you brave girl! I was content just to take pictures of them in Sharon's neighborhood.

oops! I forgot to sign my entry...of me being content taking pictures of fried creatures.

it's too bad we ran out of time to eat worms. I was planning on eating some but other food kept being forced upon me.

The worms look almost appetizing with the greenery. (chives?). The closest thing we've had here are snails (sold for 50 cents for a bowl on the street). What did Anita and Claire think of them? C

C- Anita says "good flavor (BBQ), bad texture (hollow/papery/crunchy)." I think the worst part was being left with this flavorless pulp in your mouth after the seasoning wore off. :) Claire had seconds. The Other C

"..the worst part was being left with this flavorless pulp in your mouth after the seasoning wore off.." Blank queasy stare.
